Quenox Light Shaper Kit for External Flash

There are a lot of things that are going to have to fit into my lighting bag, one of the first things I want to try out is Quenox Light Shaper Kit for External Flash. The kit itself is designed to fit any systems flash and comes with a variety of light modifiers. This is just my first impressions as I took them out of the box to play with, I have a few shoots planed in the next few months to really test them out.

Studio in a Bag …. Part 1

I have a lot of mobile lighting gear…. I can’t help it, it like a compulsion. Playing with light either in the studio or out and about strobist  style (the term strobist is actually a registered trademark and if you don’t know the strobist website you really should check it out) is something I really enjoy, but it can be hard and expensive to find the exact lighting equipment there is so much of it out there now days. So as I’m heading down to my sisters wedding latter this year in New Zealand I want to put together 1 bag of lighting equipment to take with me. So I want to test a few items and really find a balance between price, quality, portability, compatibility etc

Gloria and post production with Portrait Professional 11

I have had several shoots this year but nothing to really blog about. Just a few paid jobs small product shoots or business portraits etc. Although I have several ideas I’m working on in the next few weeks that should be something different, but last week Gloria was in the studio for a shoot.

Battle of the Sony 24 Mega pixel cameras…. A900 vs A99 vs A7

First off this isn’t going to be a totally technical blog with all the numbers and technical differences between the 3 cameras, yes there will be a bit but there are enough people out there doing stuff like that. I’m more interested in the how it feels, what I see personally as an advantage or disadvantages for my shooting needs.

a99-108

I own both A mount cameras (A900 and A99) and Roland bought his fresh out of the box A7 (with A mount adapter). The lenses I decided to use are the 4 lenses I use the most: Zeiss 24-70 2.8, Sony 50mm 1.4, Zeiss 85mm 1.4 and Minolta 100mm 2.8 macro. I deliberately chose lenses I use a lot and split the shoot up in to 3 parts east part had a different lighting set up (although each set up was similar ). The first set was shot at f8 the second set at f5.6 and the third at F2.8, I deliberate chose the 3 apertures that I use the most so that the whole shoot was typically in a style I would shoot at a normal shoot and not some thing I’m experimenting with to blog about.

Wireless Flash Remote Trigger for Sony NEX

I have seen a few different types of hot shoe adapters and flash triggers for the NEX range of cameras over the last few years. And I have been very happy with the simple JJC MSA-10 (ISO hot shoe adapter for nex) that I have been using, but last week i sew a dedicated trigger and receiver for only 14€  and thought I would give it a try.

Light Blaster Part 2 … Tips and tricks.

Here are a few things I have noticed about using the Light Blaster over the last week of playing around with it. If you have any other recommendation/ideas please let me know.

Light Blaster turns your system flash into a portable slide projector allowing you to project slide images onto or behind your subject. In consideration of the vast amount of existing slides, the potential of Light Blaster is infinite.
