Last month Tom started to get the lightGIANTS friday night shoots back into motion. Local band “Palm Valley” needed new photos after recently changeing their line up, so it was perfect timing.

Last Monday night was Betty Pages 70th birthday. So we decided to shoot a small tribute to her and roll in history. Page was “Miss January 1955”, one of the earliest Playmates of the Month. Often referred to as the “Queen of Pinups”, her jet black hair, blue eyes, and trademark bangs have influenced artists for generations.
Yousuf or Josuf (his given Armenian name was Hovsep) Karsh was born in Mardin, a city in the eastern Ottoman Empire (present Turkey). He grew up during the Armenian Genocide where he wrote, “I saw relatives massacred; my sister died of starvation as we were driven from village to village.” At the age of 16, his parents sent Yousuf to live with his uncle George Nakash, a photographer in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. Karsh briefly attended school there and assisted in his uncle’s studio. Nakash saw great potential in his nephew and in 1928 arranged for Karsh to apprentice with portrait photographer John Garo in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. His brother, Malak Karsh, was also a photographer famous for the image of logs floating down the river on the Canadian one dollar bill.
I have been having a lot of fun with my 2013 project, unfortunately I’m going away for the next few weeks so I wont have the chance to shoot in the studio. But this week I was shooting with Rockabella Kat as model and Snow White as guest photographer.
Kat did a fantastic job modelling for the first time she quickly adapted to the new situation and put in a lot of effort.
Well that was a crazy shoot. 4 Models cancelled on me with in 24hours of the shoot so we had to improvise, the last one just hours before the shoot. Tobias (from g+ not FB) and I had talked about doing a triggertrap shoot in the past, so even with a lack of models we would test out the possibilities. We both threw stuff together and meet at the studio for and evening of experimental studio techniques.

This week I continued my Monday night studio project with Vincent as model and Stephanie as guest photographer. A few months ago Vincent suggested a shoot based on Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I jumped at the chance to do this shoot as the concept fitted will to a few ideas I have had floating around in the back of my head for a while now. It also bought back memories of when I read the book during a backpacking trip from Sydney to Perth way back in the mid 90’s. The concept behind this shoot was then to portray a journey of self destruction through light and lens choice, I also wanted to keep the lighting at around constant f8 (we actually shoot between f7.1 and 9) so that there was a continuation look and feel through out the night.

I’m back, last week we were away and i didn’t get the blog finished in time so here are the photos from last Monday night shoot. Mr. JK joined me with 2 creatures of the night to shoot more low key based portraits.
This week I was in the studio with Cat van Dark and Lennart. The shoot concept was to shoot a few portraits with very minimalistic lighting. I’m a bit fan of narrow depth of field portraits and wanted to create a lighting style that had a low key look.
Servus und Grüß Gott… This weeks Monday night studio shoot based around the Dirndl. A dirndl [ˈdɪʁndl̩] is a type of traditional dress worn in Germany, especially Bavaria Liechtenstein, Austria, and South Tyrol. To keep things authentic dirndl designer Dianna Jones modelled her own outfits, and Austrian photographer Christian joined me for the shoot.
