Aragorn, son of Arathorn

Steve has an alter ego… Strider the ranger of the north. I found photos of Steve on an internet portal and was impressed with his costume. I asked if he would model for me as I had several ideas in the back of my head for a while now, and before I knew it we were in the studio. Knowing that the “Jedi Girl” would be interested in a shoot like this I asked her to join.

Using Triggertraps Mobile Part 1 … Basic set-up and Cable Release.

Basic set-up and Cable Release

 Outputs- Camera Setup

The first function available on the triggertrap Mobile is the “Cable Release”. It is the simplest function in the array of options and the best place to start off. And I will also cover some of the basic settings you can customise. Remember to use this set up you will need a smart phone with the app, a triggertrap dongle and the appropriate cable for your camera. But before you start to use the triggertrap you might want to set it up for your shooting style and camera.

Apocalipstick

This time the Friday night shoot was called Apocalipstick, it was a kind of mix up of a variety of themes e.g Kill Bill, Tank-Girl, Serenity, Sucker-Punch etc. My concept behind the look for the models was “I want you… I want to kill you”

Triggertrap Mobile Review ….

Intro

This is one of those cool stories that only the internet could make possible. I meet a few of the guys from Triggertraps at Photokina this year.  There had been a lot of talk about them in on of the Flickr groups I administer so I wanted to check them out. Basically a few guys thought they had a great idea but needed the start up capital. Using Kickstarter they wanted to raise $25,000 (£16,000 / €20,000) to create their first product, Triggertrap v1. But got more than they bargained with an astounding 300% of the target amount, and nearly 900 backers funded them to the tune of $75,000 (£48,000 / €60,000). The item that interested me the most is the Triggertrap Mobile, which launched in May 2012.

The man who shot Garbo

Intro

Clarence Sinclair Bull (1896-1979) was born in Michigan but spent most of his life in Hollywood. He was head of the MGM stills department for over forty years and he took over 4,000 photographs of Greta Garbo from 1929 until the end of her career in 1941. He was Garbo’s favourite photographer (she had clashed with George Hurrell and did not care for his manic personality) and as her power at the studio grew, she eventually requested that only Bull photograph her.

He was hired by movie mogul Sam Goldwyn in 1920 to photograph publicity stills of the studio’s stars. Four years later, when Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was founded, Bull was appointed as the head of their stills department where he remained throughout his career. During that time he took portraits of the most celebrated Hollywood film stars, however, he is particularly known for his photographs for Garbo who was almost exclusively photographed by Bull from 1926 to 1941.

Before there was Photoshop III ….Photo-Secession

Intro

The Photo-Secession (circa 1902–1907) was a period of photography where photographers fought to have photography taken seriously as an art form. The box brownie came out a few years earlier, and costing $1 photography was affordable to the masses. Photography was seen as a non art form as it simply mechanical reproduced reality and couldn’t be compared to painting or drawing. Basic photography had become so easier

Alfred Stieglitz (January  1864 – July, 1946) was an American photographer and modern art promote. He was also instrumental in founding the Photo-Secession who was instrumental over his fifty-year career in making photography an accepted art form.he wanted to take photography away from what e called “Commercial Trash” and a new form need to be developed to separate it from “Artless amateur photography”.

Saber-Project

INTRO

Markus and Jana from Saberproject were in the studio last Friday. The Saber Project is a Star Wars re-enactment troop that specialise in the high art of light-saber fighting (if you look at their website you will lots of video example).

Your father’s light saber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age. For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times… before the Empire.- Obi-Wan
