Richard Avedon

Avedon

Richard Avedon (May 15, 1923 – October 1, 2004) was an American photographer. An obituary published in The New York Times said that “his fashion and portrait photographs helped define America’s image of style, beauty and culture for the last half-century”. He has photographed the best of the best in every field of business. He has photographed the stars of music, film, literature, politics, art, dance, theater, and fashion. He got his start in 1947 in fashion photography, photographing for designers such as Dior. His photographs are some of the most well known photographs in the last 60 years.

Félix Nadar

Nadar

There is a photographer that has fascinated me for years “Félix Nadar”. Félix Nadar was the pseudonym of  ”Gaspard-Félix Tournachon” born in April 1820 in Paris and died in March 1910. Nadar was a photographer, and a friend of the painters, writers, and intellectuals in Paris during the time of Napoleon III. As an early pioneer of portrait photography he developed lighting concepts that are the basis studio work today. Earlier this year we were in Avignon and stumbled across a museum with an exhibit of over 100 of his photos, you can’t imagine how ecstatic I was to actually see his work up close ….

How the Digital Millennium Copyright Act can help you …

Intro

I am getting sick you people using my photos with out permission earlier this year I found a way to fight back……. Copyright infringement on the Web is so pervasive that it’s easy to resign yourself to it as a fact of life, something out of your control. When I found one of my photos being used as an album cover for an English recording label I was p*ssed off. OK I know this photo has been stolen 10000000000³ times but it was always used as “avatars” or “look how cool this is”. This was the first case I found of my photos being used for commercial use. I send cease-and-desist e-mail to the infringer, but they just ignored me, which was very frustrating. So I fought back using my friend Google

Edinburgh

Edinburgh

A few weeks ago I went to Edinburgh with Tom for a long weekend of whisky tasting and photography. We also met up with Jannis and Laura who were travelling around  France and Scotland…

Basically we spent most the time walking around drinking, eating and taking photos. I knew there were a lot of cemeteries in Edinburgh but I just didn’t quite realise exactly how many. I had been to Edinburgh about 10 years ago, so I had a basic idea of where I wanted to go and what to expect. But found that exploring all the alley ways and hidden little pubs was like slipping into an other world, and was content just simply to continue exploring, drinking, eating and taking photos

Lisa…

For my second post I thought it would be a good idea to post a few photos of my make up artist. Lisa and I have been working together on a lot of projects over the last 12 months. She has been both model and make up artist on several shoots and workshops in the lightGIANTS studio.

About 2 months ago she asked me to if we could do a portrait session that wasn’t based around any workshop  or other project. The only problem was finding time …
