Malysal

First of I have to thanks Malysal for jumping in last minute and modelling as my original couldn’t make it. My co-photographer this week was Dennis , it was cool to shoot with a fellow Alpha user. The fact that our lens collection complement each other and we could use triggers with out adapters added to the fun.

As we wanted to test out each others we went for a shallow depth of field shoot. So we were mostly shooting between f1.8-f3.5 which required a bit of specialised lighting especially as we only have 1 200ws Bowens Gemini flash, all the rest are 400ws and even at minimum power the put out a bit to much light.

To get around this I set up a large octobox with a 200ws flash set to a low power setting (not the lowest). It was set well in front of the model that shot past Malysal and onto a reflector. This way we built up a full light set up with studio flashes but with a narrow depth of field. Latter we mounted a strobe with a red gel to one side for a bit of rim lighting. To finish the night off I mounted the strobe with the red gel above and behind Malysal and used a ring light from the camera axis.
