No Problem Praha….

Last week we were in Prague (Old Town) for a few days, I don’t think the temperature got above -1°c. I intended to shoot mostly monotone (Black and White) for several reasons.

  • The sky was always overcast and non-existent in any colour images.
  • The Prague atmosphere and Monotone fit well together
  • Low light just makes a black and white image moody
  • I constantly shoot colour in the studio and wanted a total change
  • I find that colours can be terribly distracting in some images and can take the focus away from your subject
  • I wanted to shoot based on composition and contrast
  • You can often turn a drab colour shot into a cool black and white.
  • It’s classic and elegant, even romantic and special.

Its has been a while since I was out shooting a city or street so it was a great change. Although I took a tripod with me an planed to use it most of the time once I was there I changed my shooting strategy and shoot 100% hand held. I surprised my self by doing this, as I had researched the city a lot and had several shots planed that I never ended up doing. All the long exposures I thought about will have to wait for another trip, maybe one in summer with warm bright colours and in contrast to the cold moody city.

My poor wife had top walk every where as I just wanted to wander the streets shooting everything and not take any public transport.

All the photos were converted from RAW to B&W in Lightroom using only the basic functions, sharpening and some tins a bit of vignette

We have been enjoying great weather. BBQ almost every day, if you have had enough of the cold get yourself on a flight back downunder.
